A unique multidiciplinary collaboration
Reusable high-performance masks for our communities using biodegradable fabrics
Reusable high-performance masks for our communities using biodegradable fabrics
The consortium gathers partners from industry, fashion, biotech, universities and private institutions from different parts of Switzerland, linked informally to search for solutions and develop masks for the community.
Within ProMask, Epithelix mission is to evaluate the potential of new functionalized masks to protect from virus challenge. For this purpose, Epithelix uses in vitro reconstituted human airway tissues the evaluate the potential inactivation of respiratory viruses (Coronavirus, Influenza, Rhinovirus, respiratory syncytial virus) when trapped by new generation of masks.
We are passionate experts in thin-film encapsulation and we routinely provide coating solutions that are meant to protect a wide array of products against demanding environmental conditions. Our vapor-based coating platform combines organic and inorganic layers applied at ambient temperature.
Within the ProMask.CH consortium, we use our expertise of coating medical devices and implants with biocompatible thin films. We coated the outer layer of the face mask with a hydrophobic biocompatible film that is meant to reduce the moisture and increase the lifetime of the mask.
With a philosophy shaped by Dior, Hermès, Escada, Laurèl, and Fabric Frontline, for over two decades CQ Corporate Fashion has specialized in implementing a company’s identity into its image-clothing collection. These innovative high level concept collections we produce for uniforms are “customized to the max”. We also count to our portfolio customized concept private- and capsule- collections. To each of these projects we add our Design Thinking skills and develop new Business Models to bring fashion to the next level.
CQ Corporate Fashion GmbH brings a UX strategic holistic approach to the consortium providing the product design creations to develop a fashionable and scientifically substantiated environmentally friendly product. As well as its production in series aligned with certification criteria.
In Switzerland and beyond, and for over a decade, the PMI Science Team has positioned itself as a leader in the assessment of aerosol-based products. The cross-disciplinary character of the team of experts in chemistry, mathematics, aerosol physics, and toxicology, uniquely positions it to design and lead a wide spectrum of scientific experiments and provide data-driven insights to product development.
The PMI Science Team is supporting the project with experimental approaches to characterize filtration efficiencies and breathability of fabrics that may be suitable for the development of community masks in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The scientific approaches and results are intended to be published in peer reviewed scientific literature.
Translational medicine offers a wealth of treatment opportunities. sitem-insel aims to enhance and improve the translatability of preclinical science into therapeutic advances. Our mission is to bring the stakeholders from academia, government, industry, and science together in one place, with one goal: operational excellence in translational research.
Our vast network allowed us to organize a co-funding of the ProMask project by the Canton of Bern which originates from the Corona emergency loans designed to support the local economy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
sitem-insel, in collaboration with the Institute of Infectious Diseases of the University of Bern, provides clinical access and scientific knowledge to the ProMask.CH team. Mask prototypes will be evaluated at sitem-insel for their wearing comfort. Through our Biosafety Center at our facility, we provide access to biosafety level 3 laboratories as well as quality expertise in the field of biosafety
As a non-profit oriented public-private partnership, sitem-insel seeks to help high-quality research advance into society-benefiting treatments in the most effective way possible.
Humans can be viewed as an ecosystem with billions of microorganisms that interact among themselves and with the body using a multitude of chemical signals. At the Laboratory of Microbiology of the University of Neuchâtel we are emulating the natural ways in which different groups of microbes interconnect. With this knowledge, and using natural extracts, within the ProMask.CH consortium we aim at enhancing the design and the safety of face masks.

Using a vapor-based platform we coated the outer layer of the face mask with a hydrophobic biocompatible film that is meant to reduce the moisture and increase the lifetime of the mask.
The filtration properties of the different layers were assessed with multiple methods and aerosol types.
Intense design research and prototyping to obtain highly functional cut and details is behind the 3rd generation ÖKO TEX STANDARD 100 certified facemask designed by chiQuet. Through high quality materiality and modular concept design features for the inside life of 3D illustrated facemask we obtained sustainability by design.
